The nutritional breakdown on its own is enough for most of us to try this one. I used frozen mango, so I did reduce the ice a little, and since I like smoothies a little on the thick side, reduced the water as well. I must admit that I've developed a taste for smoothies with a little Greek yogurt, so as a personal taste preference, I will add about 1/3 cup vanilla Greek yogurt next time. However, this is simply pure sweet fruitiness from a combination of perfectly-ripe summer fruit, and it gives you a real pop of vibrant flavor. Very nice.-21 Jul 2014

Instead of water an ice cubes I used frozen cherries and mangos and some unsweetened almond milk and unsweetened flaxseed milk with just enough water to get the consistency I wanted.Yummy!-06 Feb 2018

I only had frozen fruit. No ice and added water until the right consistency. If I had fresh, ripe mangoes this would be even better.-11 Sep 2016

Healthy Breakfast!

This not only is a great protein and healthy fat source, but the flax-seeds add a great amount of Omega 3’s to your diet!

Many of us are deficient in Omega 3’s. Omega 3’s help your blood pressure, heart health, and prevents inflammation! This is a great nutrient for those of us with arthritis!

I honestly need to eat more things with Omega 3’s, and that is why I threw the flax-seeds in here. Flax-seeds go with pretty much anything because of it’s neutral taste. You can toss it in smoothies, salads, dips, etc! They have almost no carbs and are high in fiber, making them a great thing to add.

Besides Omega 3’s, Based on a 2,000 calorie diet, these have great amounts of most major vitamins and minerals (except B12, which can only be found in animal meats, which unfortunately wouldn’t go good with this smoothie).

This is what you are consuming with this recipe:

  • 86% Copper
  • 83% Manganese
  • 75% Calcium
  • 69% Magnesium
  • 53% Vitamin C
  • 53% Thiamine (Vitamin B1)
  • 52% Phosphorus
  • 41% Vitamin A
  • 40% Iron
  • 35% Potassium
  • 31% Vitamin K
  • 31% Zinc
  • 30% Vitamin E
  • 28% Vitamin D
  • 27% Vitamin B6
  • 25% Selenium
  • 19% Folate (Vitamin B9)
  • 15% Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
  • 11% Pantothetic Acid (Vitamin B5)
  • 11% Niacin (Vitamin B3)

Those are fantastic amounts and much more than I found in most other foods! This has most of Copper and Manganese, which are both fantastic for metabolism and the formation of strong bones!

Mango Cherry Smoothie

With temperatures above 30°c here in Vienna, we are all in need of ventilators, shorts, flip flops, and of course COLD drinks. When it’s this hot outside I’m not in the mood for something decadent and heavy but rather enjoy eating small snacks and delicious salads throughout the day. Especially when the lettuce and herbs are homegrown from my dad’s garden (thanks dad)! In fact I am sitting in my dad’s garden right now enjoy a light summer breeze, keeping myself hydrated and working on my tan.

The summer, hot as it is, is also the perfect time for trying out new recipes. So many fresh and regional veggies and fruits are available at the stores, it is a feast for the eyes just gazing at all the vibrant colors. If you follow my blog regularly you might know that I love experimenting with my Vitamix. So I tried a new mixture I’d love to share with you. This is perfect for any cherry lovers out there.

One thing I would like to point out to you is that you cannot make this smoothie ahead of time. If you store it in the fridge for an hour or so, the cherry layer will start to solidify and become jelly-like. This is due to the fact that cherries contain pectin, not as much as apples but enough to change their consistency. You can fix it by blending it again with a little bit of water added but to save yourself the extra work I recommend to just drink it right away.
